Step 1

Book after he’s born

You are invited to reach out anytime. The appointment is set once he arrives. Most families come about a week after birth, and Christina sees newborns up to one month old. Eighth-day circumcisions are welcome, even on short notice.

Step 2

A 45-minute visit

The procedure takes about a minute with the Mogen method. The rest of the time is yours: questions, feeding him afterward, and going through aftercare together.

Step 3

Aftercare you understand

Christina walks you through her own picture guide to normal healing and to the rare complications (under 1%). Aftercare supplies are complimentary, she checks in with every family, and follow-up questions or visits are welcomed at no additional cost.

Meet Christina

A labor and delivery nurse, then a midwife, then a specialist

Christina Buchanan spent four years as a labor and delivery nurse. In 2016 she earned her master’s from Frontier Nursing University, became a certified nurse midwife, and trained in circumcision under a local pediatrician. Christina is committed to delivering consistently outstanding healthcare.

She has attended births in hospitals, birth centers and homes, and she was an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Today she performs about ten circumcisions a week, and dozens of DFW midwives, nurse practitioners and pediatricians send their families to her.

She’s also a mom of three, so she remembers exactly what that first week feels like.

Christina is happy to provide a bill with her NPI number, diagnosis codes and CPT codes so you can submit a claim for possible reimbursement, and HSA and FSA funds will reimburse you after you submit proof of payment.

Does Christina require vitamin K?

No, she will support your decision and provide this service regardless of your vitamin K choice.

Which method of circumcision is performed?

Christina uses the Mogen clamp, designed for speed, precision, minimal discomfort and faster healing.

When should I schedule?

Feel free to reach out ahead of your son’s birth, but because babies often come on unpredictable timelines, getting a spot on the schedule happens after he makes his grand debut!

Is she available on short notice?

Oftentimes the answer is yes. She understands that those first days are a big adjustment and sometimes the gender isn’t even known until birth. Reach out as quickly as possible after he arrives; she usually has availability in Rockwall within a few days of reaching out, and sometimes she can even accommodate a same-day request. Availability in Fort Worth is more limited.

What’s the best time for the procedure?

The ideal time is when your baby is 1 to 2 weeks old. Babies tend to still be mostly sleepy at that stage, natural vitamin K levels are higher then, and breastfeeding is usually heading in the right direction.

What is the cost for the procedure?

$525 for Rockwall, $625 in Fort Worth.

What should we do to prepare?

It’s good to arrive with your baby ready to eat. Please bring the normal diaper bag items: a swaddle blanket, diapers, wipes, a change of clothes and a pacifier, if you have one. Should you wish to premedicate with acetaminophen (Genexa or Tylenol), you can give him a dose about 30 minutes before the visit. If your son takes a bottle, please bring that as well.

Can I use my insurance?

Insurance contracts and billing can be a beast. Christina is happy to provide a bill with her NPI number, diagnosis codes and CPT codes for you to submit a claim for possible reimbursement, but payment for her services is due at the visit.

What methods of payment are accepted?

Please just make it known and Christina will do her absolute best to accommodate you. She desires for the visit to be as tailored to you and your needs as possible.

What can we expect afterwards?

The first 24 hours after the procedure, your son might be very bothered, a little bothered or extra sleepy. It’s hard to predict, but after that initial period he will return to his normal self. Christina will fully educate you on how to care for the circumcision site and she will provide the supplies needed. She is also readily available for follow-up questions, should you have any questions or concerns.

What’s the story behind Circumcision by Christina?

She is very open about her own personal experiences that illuminated the need for this type of service. You can bring it up when you meet her! In short, she wanted to create a service for DFW families where choices were offered and respected, there was full comprehensive education, empathy was woven into the service, and it was performed by a highly qualified, trained medical professional.

Does Christina provide other services?

Yes, she is a nurse midwife who also has a homebirth practice. Upon request, she can assess for tongue ties (and revise them), she can collect the PKU metabolic newborn screen, and she is happy to assist with breastfeeding or provide instruction on swaddling. She can also weigh your baby if you’d like!
